Dexter & Felix
*ADOPTED!* – Bonded pair of 1 yr old male Shiba Inus – NO KIDS <14, NO APTS/CONDOS –
Dexter and Felix are a bonded pair of littermates who need to remain together. They are fearful dogs and will need an experienced foster/adopter. They were severely traumatized when they were flown via cargo from the online breeder in Missouri to their current home in Nevada. Good breeders don’t put puppies in cargo; not only is it dangerous, it can cause the PTSD that we see in Dexter and Felix. Although they may never get over this trauma and be “normal dogs”, we know that in the right home environment they will learn to trust and bond with their humans, build their confidence over time, and live the joyful lives they deserve.
Dexter is more fearful than Felix. For Dexter, his brother is his “security blanket” and he follows Felix everywhere. Dexter becomes extremely anxious when separated from his brother, even for short periods of time. Although Felix is comfortable going out for walks on leash, Dexter is not. He absolutely must have a home with a securely fenced yard for potty breaks. With time Dexter may learn to walk on leash, however some fearful dogs never do.
Dexter and Felix are both house trained and crate trained. They get along and love to play with other dogs. They do not seem to react to cats. Children under 14 would be too much for these boys, and older kids in the home would need to calm and respectful of their space. They will need a laid back home in a quiet setting that can offer them stability and predictability in their daily routine. Rehabilitating this pair will require time and patience, but will be extremely rewarding for their foster/adopter.
Dexter and Felix has been placed in a loving foster home experienced with fearful dogs. They are doing very well, but it will some time before they are ready for adoption. Dexter has some orthopedic concerns that we need to have checked out and they need to time to build their confidence. Stay tuned!
