Jetters
Jetters has been adopted! –
After almost a year in rescue, Jetters is finally home! He came to us from a shelter where he’d been abandoned by his family when they moved away. He was approx. 2-year-old at the time, and they believed he was some kind of Shiba mix. We don’t know for sure if he’s a Shiba, but he’d been through a lot, and we wanted him to have a better life, so we took him in.
Jetters’ journey in rescue had a few bumps in the road. He was doing well in his first foster home, but had to be moved when an unexpected personal issue arose. From there, he was bounced from foster home to foster home. Initially because he wasn’t getting along with other dogs, but all this shuffling around triggered his abandonment issues, leading to severe separation anxiety which manifested in destructive behaviors like chewing up walls and baseboards. Unwilling to watch poor Jetters fail in yet another foster home, one of our board members offered to foster him (despite already having 4 Shibas of her own). She gave him a consistent routine, training, and lots of exercise. With slow introductions, he learned to trust other dogs. He got the love, patience, and consistency he needed to get past his separation anxiety, and he was thriving. Seven months later, Jetters was ready for adoption.
Jetters had a few meet and greets, but for one reason or another, these homes were just not “the one”. Then we received Joshua’s application. Joshua and Keaton were sure they wanted to adopt, not shop, for their next family member. It was important to them to help a dog who’d had a rough start in life. They could offer a stable loving environment, and were happy to work on training, or whatever was needed to help a dog blossom. They were wonderful applicants, but their roommate had an Australian shepherd mix that he’d need to get along with, so we were nervous. The meet and greet could go either way, given Jetters’ history with dogs, but it went flawlessly! The dogs’ bond was immediate and remarkable. They played like they’d been best friends all their lives. Jetters would have 2 amazing dads, and a best friend for a roommate!?!? This was “the one”. Congrats Joshua, Keaton, and Jetters!
