Azuki (renamed Loki)

Azuki, now called Loki, has been adopted! Loki’s story is an all too common one. Born in a puppy mill and sold in a pet store. He was either already sick, or contracted kennel cough in the store, but was sold as a “healthy” dog to an unsuspecting human anyway. Fast forward 3 years, and Loki is being rehomed because his humans didn’t put enough thought into wether they could provide a good home for a dog. None of this is Loki’s fault yet he suffered as a result.
At intake Loki wasn’t in the best shape. He needed to be neutered, his coat and nails were a mess, and he was in desperate need of a dental. It was also clear his knees were hurting, so the vet confirmed grade 3 patellar luxation. Yet another example of how Loki, and countless others, pay the price when treated as a commodity by breeders.
Loki was placed with one of our best fosters, and received nothing but TLC from day one! We got busy looking for the perfect forever home, while Loki was getting up to date on his preventative care, recovering from surgery, and shedding extra pounds by walking daily and playing with his foster Shibling.
Rachael rescued her first Shiba, Orbit, about 12 years ago from a not so great situation. Rachael knew adopting Orbit would significantly improve his life, but what she didn’t expect was how much Orbit would enhance hers. He taught her everything she knows about how to be a good Shiba mom. They were both ready to pay it forward, when she applied almost 2 years ago, but unfortunately, shortly after Orbit started to decline as dementia set in. She put off adopting to focus on him.
Sadly, Orbit never got to meet Loki, but if he did, we are sure he would approve. At the meet and greet, Rachael, boyfriend Jim, and his Akita mix Max, immediately saw how special Loki is, and knew he was the right fit for their family. They were so right, and this story couldn’t have a better ending. Not only will Loki spend the rest of his days in this amazing home, but Rachel has honored Orbit’s memory in a way we are sure he’d be proud of. Congrats to Rachel, Jim, Max and Loki.
