Benny
1 yr old male Shiba Inu –
At just 1 year old, Benny is already on his second home. He was rehomed the first time for fighting with the other dogs and running away. His current family is rehoming him because they underestimated how much work Shibas can be. Their lives are too busy to give him the time, attention, and training he needs to be a good boy.
Benny has never been properly socialized to humans, he will bark at strangers when they come into the home, but can be won over quickly with treats. He has done well living with kids as young as 5, who are respectful, and he plays well with them.
His exposure to other dogs has been limited so he has never learned the rules of engagement. He can be too much for other dogs, doesn’t pick up on their queues, and it always ends in a fight. He has also been known to guard precious resources. Our hope is that he will have doggy friends or housemates someday, but we won’t really know until we get him into rescue and begin to work with him. Therefore, we are seeking a foster home with no dogs, so we can work with him on slow introductions, and recondition his reaction to other dogs’ warnings. We have to ensure all his interactions with dogs going forward are positive ones, so that he can become a dog-friendly dog!
Benny is currently living with a cat and they are good buddies. He’d love a home with a cat that would enjoy playing with a canine brother!
Benny is house trained and loves his crate. Like with all Shiba puppies, crating when his humans are not home or sleeping, will be an important tool to keep him out of trouble until he matures. We know that once he is in a home where he gets regular walks, training, and enrichment activities, his mischievous behaviors will subside, and he will be a trustworthy boy in due time.
Benny has always had a yard to play in and run off his super high puppy energy. Like most Shibas, he is unlikely to adjust to apartment life after having this luxury. He has been known to escape and run away, given the opportunity, but in a home where he’s well exercised/stimulated, and proper precautions are taken, it’s unlikely to be a life-long issue.
Benny is a sweet silly boy who loves being a part of a family. He’s affectionate for a Shiba and is super smart! We know he will respond well to training and will benefit from an active, experienced adopter. If you are interested in being a foster, or foster-to-adopt home for Benny, please complete an application today! The sooner we get him into rescue, the sooner he can begin to live his best life!
Benny’s adoption fee will be $350 and includes his neuter, vaccines, heartworm negative status, microchip and a group class or one private session with a COSIR approved trainer,
