Chigo
FOSTER FOUND! – 6 yr. old male Shiba -no cats, no kids <13 –
This precious little guy is Chigo. He is being rehomed by the only family he’s ever known because he does not get along with cats. His forever home will need to be cat free!
At a bit under 20 lbs, he is small for a male Shiba. He is generally happy to meet any dog. He has lived with dogs in the past and and is part of a play-pack with 3 larger dogs. He likes to play, and has that typical Shiba style of play that’s a bit rough, but it’s all in good fun!
Chigo is a resource guarder of food/treats, and needs to be fed separately from other dogs. His family reports that he has a food allergy, and and will need poultry and grain free food. He would really benefit from a fresh food diet vs. kibble.
Chigo is house trained. His family never tried crate training, but he can be trusted when left home alone. He is, however, accustomed to having someone home quite a bit. He’s typically never left alone more than 4 hours at a time. He would do best in a home with a similar schedule.
Chigo is sweet and friendly. He does get a bit nervous when new people first come over, and will alert bark. It doesn’t take him long to calm down and is easily won over with treats. He is afraid of kids and prefers to avoid them. He may learn to trust older kids who are respectful and let Chigo come to them in his own time.
Chigo is accustomed to having a yard with a 6 ft fence. He does not have a history of escaping. He may be able to transition to a home with no yard, if he gets enough outside adventures and sniffaris! He is not being walked regularly, but is reportedly good on leash. He will be very excited to finally get the exercise and stimulation he needs and may initially be a “puller”. The excitement of his new environment will wear off in time, and he is smart and will be esponsive to training.
Like so many Shibas, he is noise sensitive and would enjoy a quiet home/neighborhood.
