Cindy

*ON MEDICAL HOLD* 4 yr old female Shiba/Chow mix, no dogs, no small children
Cindy is estimated to be 4 yrs old and weighs 29 lbs. We believe she is a Shiba/Chow mix. Cindy was picked up as a stay and in a Texas shelter and then pulled by a local rescue organization that brought her to us. Although her owners were identified, they didn’t want her back. She reportedly broke her leg when she fell off a roof, but was never given any medical attention and it healed improperly. Although Cindy seems to have adjusted well and gets around ok, she will be seen by an orthopedic specialist to determine if we can improve her quality of life with surgical intervention.
If surgery is an option for her, it will have to wait. Cindy tested positive for heartworm and has started treatment, but will need several more months of injections before she is in the clear. During that time she must be kept on exercise restriction and remain calm.
Like most Shibas, she is hit or miss with other dogs. She can be somewhat reactive to some if they get too close. Cindy has been through a lot and is cautious around new people, particularly men, but warms up to people who approach her slowly and respectfully. She needs someone who will let her build trust slowly. Small children would likely be too much for her. She has not been tested with cats.
Cindy has been placed in a foster home and is settling in. She has been very fearful at the vet, so they are taking it slow as, they don’t want to further traumatize her.
Cindy will be available for adoption, once she is heartworm negative and we’ve determined if she needs surgery on her leg. Stay tuned for updates! If you would like to contribute to Cindy’s care, please click the Donate button below.
