Fundraiser for Missy
FUNDRAISER EXPIRED – We raised $5,795.93 in total, thanks to over 90 private donations from our amazing supporters, and a grant from the Shiba Inu Rescue Resource Association.
UPDATE: Missy is doing so well on the medication, the cardiologists want to hold off on heart surgery for now. Inevitably, it will become necessary, but for now the quality of life she’s achieved on meds outweighs the risks of surgery.Missy will remain in rescue as a hospice dog to ensure continuity of care, and guarantee she gets the surgery she needs when the time comes. The money we’ve raised for Missy is in a savings account and will be used to pay for her ongoing veterinary costs: daily medication, quarterly check ups and echocardiograms, phlebotomizing as needed to prevent blood clots, and of course surgery.
Missy has trouble breathing and can’t take more than 4 steps without being completely out of breath, and exhausted! She requires an open-chest surgery to increase blood flow to her lungs. The estimated cost of this surgery is $5,000-$7,000. Missy has an uncommon heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. Most dogs with this devastating birth defect don’t live to see their first birthday. The fact that she is 4 yrs old is a miracle! As if that’s not enough, Missy also has severe glaucoma and was in significant pain from the extreme pressure in both eyes. We just had both of her eyes removed. Once healed, Missy will finally be pain free and we can focus on her heart health. While Missy recovers and adjust to life as a blind dog, we will raise the money we need to move forward with the second surgery for her heart defect. Please consider donating to Missy’s surgeries. She has suffered too long, but with your help we can give her the quality of life she deserves.
