Hiro
It is with great sadness we share that Hiro has crossed the rainbow bridge. His neurological condition proved to be much worse than we thought. His health and quality of life declined rapidly and significantly in the course of a week. The shelter he spent the last 2 months in made the difficult, but humane, decision to end his suffering.
Hiro was an innocent victim of the despicable and inhumane actions of a “backyard breeder”. He has been reported to the authorities, but likely continues to breed after paying what would be likely be an insignificant fine considering the $1600 he charges for puppies. We hope that Hiro’s story will make people think twice about shopping for their next pet. The best way to stop unethical backyard breeders and is to adopt, not shop!
We share our grief with the shelter staff. They adored him as much as we did, and he left this world surrounded by people who loved him. We are grateful to have the privilege to work with such an amazing and caring staff. We will continue to partner with them to find unwanted pets their forever homes.
11 month old male Shiba & Husky or Klee Kai mix – NO SMALL CHILDREN:
Hiro is in a shelter. We need a foster ASAP to bring him into rescue! Hiro is an adorable, happy, high energy Shiba & Husky or Klee Kai mix puppy! At 35 pounds, he is slightly larger, and taller, than your average Shiba. He is good with dogs, but will chase cats. He should not live with kids under 13. He does well in his crate.
Hiro did not receive sufficient exercise, stimulation, or any training in his previous home. He will need a foster with Shiba, or other spitz breed experience, plus the time and patience to devote to training and work on basic manners with the rescue’s support. Someone who is home quite a bit is preferred.
We believe that Hiro has Cerebellar Hypoplasia; a condition where the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls coordination, fails to fully develop. This means that he is clumsy, has trouble with balance, and fine motor skills. Although there is no cure, dogs with this condition live long happy lives. Once in rescue, we will be able to take Hiro to a neurologist for an MRI and any necessary diagnostics to confirm this diagnosis.
