Kaia
1 yr old female Shiba Inu – no kids < 13, no cats –
Kaia’s story is an all too common one for Shibas. She is being surrendered because living with a cat and small children has proven to be very stressful for her, resulting in aggression towards both. We are looking for a foster, or foster-to-adopt home for Kaia so that we can bring her into rescue ASAP!
Kaia is an incredibly sweet, silly, and smart little Shiba. She loves snuggles at bedtime, doing zoomies, playing in the snow, and catching snowballs. She is still very much a puppy and still has some puppy behaviors, like digging and chewing. She will need a home that is ready for that kind of energy, and is ready to puppy proof and has the time to supervise her and provide the exercise and stimulation she needs on a daily basis. She already knows some basic commands and responds to a whistle. She would thrive a human who enjoys working on training and enrichment activities to keep her busy out of trouble!
Kaia is good with other dogs, but has never lived with one. She has a tendency to guard, so if going into a home with other dogs, fosters/adopters with experience will be required. She should not live with dogs that are also guarders.
She has a very strong prey drive and has shown aggression towards the cat. She cannot be trusted around small, prey-sized creatures. She is in a constant state of heightened anxiety living with young kids, and would like a home with either no kids, or kids at least 13 yrs old, and respectful of her space.
Kaia is house trained and loves her crate. Although she has a bit of FOMO if in her crate when people are home and there is clearly something fun going on with out her! She is an incredible dog, and whoever adopts her is going to be very lucky!
If you are interested in Kaia, please complete an adoption or foster application ASAP! If you are already on our waitlist, please reach out to let us know you are interested. Questions? Email us at adopt@coshibarescue.org or call/text 720-491-1278.
