Kaiya (6/1/2004 – 3/9/2017)

It’s with great sadness that we share the news that our sweet Kaiya, and foster brother/COSIR alumni, Smidge, both passed away on Thursday. Kaiya came into rescue as a stray; starving and needing the special care that an aging dog requires. She was fortunate to be taken in by fosters Jonna and Rodney, and fit in beautifully with their Shiba pack. They gave her the unconditional love and respect that every old dog deserves. Her last 9 months with them were full of joy as she formed an unparalleled bond with Smidge. (Pictured here napping with Kaiya). They were best friends and did everything together, but unfortunately grew older and weaker together too. They were inseparable in life, and it gives us comfort to know that they are together in their final resting place. RIP Kaiya and Smidge. You are in our hearts forever!
