Kenji
FOSTER FOUND! Foster plans to adopt after trial period.
EXPERIENCED FOSTER/ADOPTER NEEDED: 5 yr old male Shiba, no dogs, no kids –
This handsome boy is Kenji. He is a sweet and friendly Shiba; full of energy and life! He loves long walks and being with his person. Kenji is house trained and loves his crate. He is accustomed to having a yard to play and do “zoomies” in. Like so many Shibas, Kenji suffers from anxiety, but also struggles with how to communicate effectively with his human and Shiba siblings. This combined with the fact that Kenji never learned bite inhibition or impulse control has gotten him into some trouble. His best chance for success will be in a home with no dogs and no kids, while we help him work on these things.
Kenji needs an experienced foster/adopter. He would not be a good choice for someone’s first Shiba (or dog for that matter). Like so many Shibas, Kenji was not properly socialized as a young pup and missed some important lessons about dog/dog interaction, play and setting/respecting boundaries. Although Shibas typically have an “aggressive” style of play, his play is too aggressive and he’s a bit of a bully, but doesn’t know it.
Kenji seeks affection and play, but struggles with how to tell them when he’s feeling overwhelmed and had enough, or how to ask for more. Kenji needs an adopter who is good at reading his subtle cues. They will need to give Kenji his space and slowly build a relationship of mutual respect, while encouraging and rewarding appropriate ways to communicate what he is comfortable with in terms of interaction, affection and play.
We need to find an appropriate foster/adopter for Kenji in order to bring him into rescue. If you are interested in Kenji, please complete an adoption application.
