4 month old male Shiba Inu –
Kenji is another tragic example of why puppy mills need to be stopped! #adoptdontshop While in the puppy mill, Kenji’s leg was broken. The breeder either didn’t know, didn’t care, or wasn’t willing to spend the money to do anything about it. His leg was never set and did not heal properly, leaving his patella (knee) completely out of joint. Thanks to our friends at the Colorado Japanese Chin Rescue that saved him from the puppy mill, Kenji had surgery to repair his leg before he was transferred to us.
He now requires ongoing physical therapy, and will likely suffer from arthritis starting at a younger age than usual. The complete lack of compassion and care on the part of the puppy mill breeder will effect Kenji the rest of his life.
We have placed Kenji in a Foster-to-Adopt home that has experience rehabilitating dogs with orthopedic issues. Kenji has started hydro therapy with the wonderful team at Animal Care Center of Castle Pines. They have prescribed 6 sessions, and will then be reevaluated for further therapy. Once Kenij has completed all recommended therapies for the immediate future, we will finalize his adoption, knowing that his foster-to-adopt family are able and willing to provide the care he needs for the rest of his life.
Kenji’s is just one of many dogs we’ve taken in this year requiring extensive veterinary care for serious conditions. Our general funds are dangerously low, yet we have many more dogs to care for. If you would like to contribute to our general fund so we can continue to care for Kenji and all our dogs, please click on the donate button below.
