Layla
**COURTESY POST** THIS DOG IS NOT IN RESCUE CUSTODY, QUALIFIED APPLICATIONS WILL BE PASSED ON TO THE OWNER
3 yr old female, Shiba/Cattle dog mix, no acts/condos, no kids
Layla is approximately 3 years old and about 15 lbs. We believe she is a Shiba, possibly mixed with Cattle dog. She’s had an abusive past and has been re-homed multiple times, leaving her fearful of new people, and with separation anxiety. Her anxiety manifests itself in barking when she is left alone, so she cannot live in an apartment and needs a family that can tolerate some barking. A home with people that are home a lot to give her the time and attention she needs is essential to her happiness. She is a very high energy dog and needs a very physically active family. However, a very busy household, with lots of commotion and frequent guests, would be too much for her. A calm, quiet home is ideal. She is well behaved and knows basic commands. She is spayed, house trained and crate trained, and loves her walks.
Layla is not a fan of children; big or small. She will herd and nip at small children, and is mistrustful of, and reactive to, older children. She is good with other dogs and cats, and would benefit from having another pet in the home. She is lovable and likes to snuggle. In the right environment, we believe Layla would thrive, and are hopeful her anxiety and barking would improve with time, but would need a family willing to deal with it.
Layla’s owner is understandably not willing to surrender her to rescue and put her through yet another stressful transition into a foster home. We are posting for her as a courtesy to try to expand her reach to potential adopters. If you think you might be a good fit for Layla, please contact COSIR at adopt@coloradoshibainurescue.org. Any qualified applicants will be passed along to the owner for a final adoption decision.
