Miyuki
4 yr old female Shiba –
Miyuki is a sweet special Shiba. She needs an experienced adopter that understands her needs and can offer the right environment. She deserves an adopter as loving and loyal as she is, so we are partnering with Shiba Inu Rescue Association (SIRA) to find the right home. Miyuki is in IN.
In 2019, Miyuki was adopted to a wonderful family through SIRA. She was just 6 months old and a bit shy. With parents dedicated to training and socialization, she gained confidence and blossomed. She was happy and had a good relationship with their cat, and male Shiba.
In 2021, her family started to notice some changes in her behavior. She started showing some guarding tendencies, creating issues with both the other animals. They started feeding separately, and took precautions, but there were some incidents, and at one point she injured the male Shiba. Around the same time, the grade 3 patellar laxation that they were aware of when they adopted her, was starting to effect her.
In 2022, they had the patellar laxation surgically repaired, in hopes that her aggression was, at least in part, pain induced. While the procedure was a success and she was feeling better, her aggression towards other dogs worsened and became less predictable. At the same time, she began having seizures. The seizures became more frequent, so they worked with a neurologist to diagnose her epilepsy and get her on there right meds to control it.
In 2023, Miyuki became notably more mellow and affectionate during her humom’s pregnancy. When they brought home their baby girl, Miyuki instantly loved her. The excitement of the new baby, along with the new responsibility to protect her, was a bit too much. It triggered more seizures and aggression towards their other pets. Unfortunately, Miyuki’s humans have now been bitten while trying to break up dog fights.
They have been forced to keep Miyuki completely separated, confined to an x-pen, to keep everyone safe. Recognizing, this is no way to live, they have made the difficult decision to re-home her. We are seeking a home with no other animals or children, so she will not feel the need to guard and live a stress-free life.
Miyuki is house trained and a good girl. She is accustomed to a home with a yard and having someone home a lot. She loves doing zoomies, playing chase, and fetch. She is good on leash and will need at least one long “sniffari” walk per day. She requires a low fat diet for her chronic pancreatitis.
Miyuki is located in IN, so applicants in the midwest as well as CO are encouraged to apply. Already on our waitlist? Let us know you are interested. Email us at adopt@coshibarescue.org or call/text 720-491-1278.
