Niko (formerly Fox)
Fox has been adopted! (and is now called Niko) –
Contacted by a local shelter who’d picked up a stray 3-year-old Shiba, we quickly got to work calling fosters so we could get this boy out of there ASAP. Luckily, one of our regular foster homes was available (so rare!), and able to take him right away. Niko is a well socialized boy so he immediately got along with his new foster Shibling, started to settle in, and decompress after his traumatic shelter experience. The foster reported that when he went on his first walk, he ran right up to the little kids next door and licked their faces. Oh my goodness!!! How exciting to have a Shiba that loves kids in rescue; such a rare and pleasant surprise. And such great news for all the wonderful adopters on our waitlist with kids who have been patiently waiting for a kid-friendly Shiba to become available.
We posted Niko for adoption, and reached out to our waitlisters, but one application stood out as the best fit for Niko. Rachel and Chad are alumni who’d adopted a mill survivor Shiba named Heidi from us 6 years ago. Heidi had since passed away, and their family had grown since we last saw them. They now have a 1 year old female Shiba named Kaia, and 2 sweet, adorable, Shiba savvy little girls. With another young Shiba, and kids to play with, what at a great home this could possibly be for Niko.
The volunteer that did the meet and greet said that it was the best meet and greet ever! Anyone watching would have assumed that Niko had been part of this family his whole life. He was so excited to meet Rachel and Chad, greeting them by jumping up, wagging his tail, and being as adorable as he could possibly be. He was thrilled to meet the 2 and 5 year old girls, but knew not to jump on them, and was respectful of their Shiba, Kaia. What a good boy!! Niko was tolerant of Kaia’s borderline excessive sniffing & played gently with her. The girls got approval to invite Niko into their pillow fort, and he happily obliged, giving the pillows a good sniffing. That pretty much sealed the deal, and there was no need to look any further. Niko was home!
Congrats Niko, Kaia, Rachel, Chad and the girls!
