Norman
Norman has been adopted and has been renamed Mr. Miyagi! –
When we were notified by a local shelter that an approx. 10-12 yr old Shiba that had been picked up as a stray. They had adopted him out, but he was quickly returned for perceived “aggression” towards the adopter. We immediately got to work looking for a home. In the meantime, the shelter neutered Mr. Miyagi, and gave him a much-needed dental.
We had some interest and brought a few applicants to the shelter for a meet and greet with Mr. Miyagi and he did great! He was so friendly with the humans and their dogs. After greeting, he mostly ignored and went about sniffing the world around him. He was a prefect gentleman, but for one reason or another, none of these fosters were the right fit, and our search continued.
Jen had fostered an older dog for us before; she has a soft spot for the seniors. When she saw Mr. Miyagi’s post, she reached out right away. We knew she’d be a great foster for him, but Jen and her boyfriend Russell, had 2 trips coming up, but we were determined to make it work. By the time they returned from their first trip, we had confirmed another foster to dog sit for the 2nd trip, so we could move forward.
Jen brought their sweet 10 year old dog Zia with her to the shelter to meet Mr. Miyagi. The introduction went great, so we were able to break him out of jail right then and there, and headed straight to Jen’s so Mr. Miyagi could meet Russell.
Mr. Miyagi instantly bonded to Russell and got comfortable there very quickly, letting his spunky personality come out. Jen and Russell were clearly smitten with Mr. Miyagi, and things were going so smoothly. They let us know they’d decided to cancel their 2nd trip because they wanted to stay home with this sweet boy!
When our volunteer went for a visit a few weeks later, the first thing Russel said when she came in the door was that “Mr. Miyagi isn’t going anywhere!” We saw a very happy family with a dog that was thriving, so we agreed, and the adoption date was scheduled before the visit was over!
Mr. Miyagi absolutely loves his new family and his life! He gets multiple walks a day, does a nightly Shiba 500, and enjoys his nap time! Turns out someone taught him quite a few tricks at some point in his life. He was happy to demonstrate and he is teaching them to his sister, Zia, too. (Which might might explain new name…wax on, wax off ;)) Congrats to Jen, Russell, Zia, and Mr. Miyagi.
