Riku
**ON HOLD for behavioral assessment**8 yr old male Shiba Inu – *No dogs, no cats, teenaged kids only* –
Riku is a sweet Shiba with lots of personality. He is friendly, loves being with his human and likes to keep busy with toys and puzzles! He will fetch and is a fan of the Chuck-it. He needs an active home. He’s quite curious and enjoys observing the household activity from a distance. He’s smart and vocal, so he will definitely let you know when he wants your attention.
He’s always been fearful of young kids, but an incident with a child has had a lasting PTSD effect on him. He is most reactive to younger kids and should not live with them, but he’d likely do fine teenagers who are respectful.
While Riku can meet and play with other dogs on neutral territory, the presence other dogs in his home make him anxious. This anxiety can result in resource guarding with humans, but ONLY if other dogs are present. With no dogs in the home, he is not a guarder. Riku does not do well with cats.
Riku needs lots to keep him busy, so a yard to patrol is ideal. He likes brisk walks, and tug-o-war. He loves a good “chill in the park and watch the world go by session”. Riku is a bit overweight. His diet interferes with his treat obsession, so adopters must be have will power for him. Riku loves to be brushed, and also enjoys snuggling up to his humans and back scratches.
Riku is house trained and crate trained. He has mild allergies that are manageable with regular injections.
Riku’s adoption fee is $175 and includes his neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test, and microchip. If you are interested in adoption Riku, please complete an adoption application.
