Ryu is a puppy mill survivor. Just like his brother Koa (also on our “Coming Soon” page), he has spent his entire 1st year of life in a cage, so he no idea what it is to be a “normal” dog. He is just now being exposed to life as a pet, living in a home, and having relationships with humans. Because the entire world is new to him, he is extremely fearful, as evident by his posture in these photos. Having other dogs around him, something he is familiar with, helps him to feel more comfortable. We have placed him in an experienced foster home with other confident, well socialized dogs to show him the ropes. He seems to be a bit more fearful than is brother, and will likely need a little bit longer rehab before he’s ready for adoption; maybe 6 months or so. His foster mom is giving him the space and time that he needs to learn to trust humans. He has already been accepted by the pack, and is doing well. We will keep you posted!
