Tango

UPDATE: ADOPTED! One of the shelter volunteers fell in love and took him home! FOSTER/ADOPTER NEEDED: 5 yr old male Shiba, *no cats* –
This gregarious gent is Tango and he’s pretty special. We suspect a Shiba mixed with Corgi maybe? He has a shorter, longer body and is about 35 lbs. His tail curl is more of a floof than the tight cinnamon bun. Whatever he is, he’s 100% adorable, and pure Shiba in terms of his personality and requirements in a home. 😆🐕
Tango has been in and out of shelters for at least 6- 9 months. He is currently in a shelter that has adopted him twice, and gotten him back twice. Like all shelters, they are overcrowded, and know he requires breed expertise to get him into the right home not just his next home. We are looking for an appropriate foster, (or foster-to-adopt) home, so we can get him into rescue asap!
Tango was returned the 1st time because of aggression towards the cat. He could live with the right dog; a small dog that ignores him, and is not too excitable. He’d likely do well with an older dog who doesn’t want to play. He is fearful of larger dogs. He is a resource guarder, so no dogs that guard in the the home please!
Tango is a shelter favorite. He hangs out at the front desk with the staff. He’s quit the schmoozer. Loves to say hi 👋🏼 to people and be adored!🤩 He is a snuggler, but very much on his terms. Someone experienced with how sensitive Shibas can be to handling will make his transition into rescue far less stressful and he will bond very quickly. He was returned the 2nd time becuase he didn’t do well with kids. Respectful teenagers would be ok, but he’s not a fan of younger kids.
Tango is smart and well behaved. He is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. He has good leash skills and is always down for a walk or hike. He enjoys car rides and playing with toys and in the yard. He even likes to play fetch! Maybe that’s the Corgi in him. 😉 He prefers to sleep on his own bed at night, but is happy to keep your bed warm while your working all day!
Tango is a vocal Shiba, who likes to “talk” to his person. He will let you know when he wants something or is unhappy. Right now, that includes when he’s left home alone. The poor guy has some abandonment issues. Understandable after the year he’s had. For now, he will need someone that’s home mostly; maybe someone working from home, or retirees. We see this a lot with Shibas because they get passed around alot. We believe, once he’s in a home long enough to trust, and not worry about being abandoned again, he will be fine.
If you meet Tango’s requirements and are interested, please fill out a foster or adoption application asap! If you are already on our waitlist, please reach out to let us know you are interested at adopt@coshibarescue.org or call/text 720-491-1278.
Tango’s adoption fee will be $275. It includes his neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test and 2 month supply of prevention, microchip, and initial training class or private session with a COSIR approved trainer.
